The critical takeaway here isn't about memecoins. It's that the SEC's interpretation of Howey continues to be that an investment contract may exist based on the "economic reality" of an arrangement. The SEC's recent optimistic approach to the industry and the dismissal of many of its cases has led a lot of people to believe that "everything is legal". That's particularly true because most of the cases the SEC has been dropping/settling involved arguments by the defendants that, rather than "economic reality," Howey's investment contract analysis hinged on whether there was a formal contract. So, if the dismissals were a sign that the SEC was accepting of this "predicate contract" argument (and abandoning the "economic reality" argument), nearly every token in existence would be legal. This release confirms the SEC doesn't believe "everything is legal" and that's a good thing.

first-time macbook user thoughts (<1 week): - learning new hotkeys is hard work after being exclusively a windows-only user - changing caps lock to work as a command key was an elite suggestion (ty @sdv.eth) - removing dock hide delay was also an elite suggestion (ty again @sdv.eth) - i love that i can share my internet with my phone via usb (great for weak wi-fi areas where phone seems to drop in and out) - mission control, app expose and hot corners are actually awesome once you can accept a new way of navigating round your desktop space (not using the taskbar / alt tab like windows) - battery life is ACTUALLY insane, now i see why everyone wanders around with a macbook and no charger wants: - i want to be able to two-finger swipe back and forward on warpcast like i can on twitter and other websites - an equivalent of ninite for macOS - more power-user suggestions pls

Here’s my thesis: 1. Content is valuable 2. The internet has a value capture problem 3. Crypto and open markets solve that problem The net result is an internet that now has free information and value capture for producers, distributors and consumers of information.

No. And I'm also not a capitalist. Both are 20th century ideologies. (And they are words that have been stretched and abused to the point of meaninglessness: remember, in the 1990s, Microsoft called Linux "communist": https://www.theregister.com/2000/07/31/ms_ballmer_linux_is_communism/ ) I support freedom, global equality of opportunity, kindness and cooperation, human welfare and progress. These are timeless principles. The question is how to use the tools we have available to achieve these values in the context of the 21st century. I've written at length about the kinds of mechanisms I personally support, but I definitely do not think that I am the only source of good ideas, I think figuring out the best approach is a shared project of both thinking and also increasingly real world experimentation.

Feels like crypto is trending heavily toward either “definite pessimism” (aka PvP nihilism) or “indefinite optimism” (“bring the world onchain”) according to the Thiel matrix. We need more definite optimism.

don't let the markets or short term thinkers psyop us: 1. build for the long term 2. believe in ourselves 3. win together we are building a global economy that can work for everyone. it's not going to be easy, but we can do it.

Ethereum will lose if this is its ethos. That’s an observation, not a judgment. Any project which centers communism eventually self-immolates. Ethereum’s survival requires either Vitalik to change his mind, or a new leader to replace him.
