In honor of @perl today, I'm doing an AMA! 

A little on my background if helpful:

- building @bountycaster with @pirosb3 
- ran a crypto fund Scalar Capital for 6 years
- was an early Coinbase employee
- working on an Ethereum documentary (this year release)

Became interested in venture after a call with @nick who also introed me to a VC! Didn't know anything about that world before

While in venture, I just saw a lot of teams raise massive amounts of capital and subsequently hire giant teams but not get anywhere close to PMF, so wanted to be resource-constrained at first

how did you become interested in venture?

and how has that impacted your decision on how to run funding for bountycaster (iirc bootstrapped)

I started off angel investing in friends / former colleagues that went on to start their own companies. A lot of times people just don't know who does angel investing or not so make it clear to founders you respect that you're interested and what you can uniquely offer to support beyond capital (warm intros help a lot)

How does someone get involved in investing in companies like Neynar? I see a future in it and I would love to have some ownership, but idk how I to get exposure 🤔

First 2-3 years was dominated by fundraising, brand building, and fund admin (really disliked this and questioned if I even made the right choice) but loved the last 3-4 years where it was mostly research, talking to founders, and supporting portfolio companies

how did you manage your time while at scalar? in terms of time spent sourcing, dd, socials, fund admin, etc

It's shocking how you don't actually have to be a good investor to run a fund, just need to be well connected to LPs / good at fundraising

For some reason the bar is low on responsiveness to portfolio companies. It's really important to me but shocked many investors don't respond / take forever to get back to founders

what is something people think is important for running a fund that isn't true? and vice versa- what is something people ignore often but matters a lot?

Neither fish nor biscuit. I organise Ethereum Singapore and help at clrfund.  I dont think I have to be who I am on Twitter here and I love it

Probably like 5%? It's mostly a character-driven film aimed for a mainstream audience so doesn't get as into the weeds on more technical stuff

We did a crowdfund on Mirror that raised ~$2m in ETH which had NFTs created by @pplpleasr for our largest contributors

Due to how Mirror was set up technically, we had to create a token in the backend for all contributors but that is ONLY used for token-gating to a private Discord group

Is the documentary token-funded and why / why not?

Building /stokefire and poolfish.xyz (/poolfish). A calculator for LP providers. Built Potion solo to $6k+ MRR and sold for $300k.

What book or other media has had the most impact on you?

Most was def the people - really talented, hardworking, creative, and caring

Least was more specific to me since I left when it was ~150 people and I felt like wasn't able to move as quickly in a space that moves very quickly
