i’m not sure why so many vegan menus focus on fake omelettes and imitation meats, often made with questionable ingredients and ultimately disappointing. restaurants should focus on creating original, plant-based recipes that truly showcase the flavors of real ingredients—i’m sure people would appreciate that so much more.

when making technical decisions, how do you decide which option to execute? do you go with the democratic approach of majority votes, or do you use a more logical approach to finalize the best option?

attended a session with andrew ng yesterday. the man is a legend - probably the calmest person i have heard recently. the session was full of wisdom. a few things stuck with me (paraphrasing) - thinking of yourself as less important (less focus on one’s own success) allows you to work on more important things. this also means less jealousy. less anxiety and depression - willingness to be misunderstood in the long term. truth is not a popularity contest. when you truly believe in something, pick up small signals from people who matter and continue, even when most people disagree with you - learning to use genAI is important. if you can learn a little coding and make genAI your intern coder, you can quickly prototype your ideas - modify how you communicate according to your audience so that they can understand you. direct and respectful way of communication is the way to go - optimistic about agentic workflows

amazon just launched its first color kindle. love how colors look on the screen. i am a big kindle user, but i didn’t like reading comics or cookbooks on it - what’s the point if you can’t see actual pictures. kindle colorsoft definitely changes the game. any kindle fans here - what do you think? https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/devices/new-kindle-color-scribe-paperwhite-entry

i’m not sure about the accuracy of this ring, but not having to pay for an app or product that claims to need a monthly fee to show me my own data—while also collecting and using it to improve its accuracy—seems like a good product to me. https://x.com/d_feldman/status/1845670108514930755?s=46

intern nerds at apple did a fun experiment to evaluate LLM’s mathematical reasoning capabilities. they created modified versions of GSM8k - GSM-symbolic & GSM-NoOp. In the questions they: - swapped out subject and object names - replaced numerical values - added additional clauses relevant to the context of the questions, but irrelevant for calculating the answers (GSM-NoOp) In case of only name changes, performance dropped by about 10%. In case of NoOp, performance dropped by about 65% “We hypothesize that this decline is due to the fact that current LLMs are not capable of genuine logical reasoning; instead, they attempt to replicate the reasoning steps observed in their training data.” https://arxiv.org/pdf/2410.05229

every time i move to a new city: stage 1: excitement overload: new city, new home, let’s revamp! selling everything for a fresh start—so many ideas! stage 2: shop ‘til you drop: the market is full of cool stuff, time to buy all the things! stage 3: regret & exhaustion: completely drained, maximum screen time on amazon app. why did I sell my stuff again? no more shopping, please! and i never learn from my mistakes. this cycle repeats every two years

poor posture not only reflects bad body language but can also lead to health issues. i’ve been working (inconsistently) on improving mine, and what I initially thought was just laziness turned out to be due to weak shoulder and back muscles. https://x.com/bryan_johnson/status/1844454202665504787?s=46

i wonder what these tech reporters have already seen that even a bunch of humanoids in action couldn’t impress them. https://x.com/lulumeservey/status/1844735907292750029?s=46

i’m at the GHC conf this year for work, and it’s surprising not to see even a single talk about decentralization or blockchain, with less than a handful about what people are building. every session is either about bias in AI models or self-help. i wish there were more talks about what people are building and how they are using AI to solve different problems. while I agree that we want more women in tech, the motivation comes from seeing how others are making a dent, rather than constantly talking about the issues.
