Now here’s a 🌶️ take How many readers do you really need in an AI age that gobbles up all the reading jobs? I love reading. But often I wish I had like 10 less iq points and didn’t love reading.

There's something to be said about having a manageably low IQ sometimes. Seems kinda fun.

If human intelligence drops over time, wouldn’t some AI’s output quality eventually drop too?

Isn't it like clickbait? Hard to believe that 4th graders cannot read when it's something kids know since kindergarten

I've been writing and reading about illiteracy for a few months now and I think it's way worse than we know, exacerbated by technology.

I think we stop looking at the multitude as individuals with unrecognized potential, and we instead look at them as potential consumers to sell shit to. Simple minds mean fewer iterations towards PMF. Make companies that tickle their reptile brains. Don’t inspire them. Let them languish. It will also empower our emerging literati class. We are the new elites. The candle in the dark. We guide the masses towards our greatness. Memes good. Math bad. Blogs good. Books bad. Lazy thoughts only!

I do think there’s technological contexts in which reading might not be as important as it has been so for But for now reading is still so critical for navigating information for yourself… Being in this digital age wo the ability to read would be like living in a foreign country and never speaking the language

We keep saying it’s an AI age But we forget that those who developed or started to develop these could read lol What happens in the future when it’s the ones that can’t read who are in charge, doesn’t technology regress?

That _is_ a hot take. I often wish I had +10IQ points and could more easily read tough texts.

I dunno…I get a ton of pleasure from reading - it’s still one of my fav ways to consume info. If AI reads/summarizes for us, some people will still want to read the output. Maybe the unlock is that people who don’t want to read won’t have to because AI will make audio/video/smellio for them.

Both me and my husband are writers. Our son is four and you bet he knows how to read. He still gets tripped up by long words but I will not give up on teaching him the joy of books. My parents tried so hard with me when I was little and there is nothing that compares to the curiosity you acquire when you legitimately love reading.

Agree this is epic failure, also wish at times to be blissfully ignorant. Hopefully jobs become irrelevant soon and humans can collaborate w AI, after solving the pressing issues, and just create/express/experience culture and "explore space, inner and outer, together forever."

That makes no sense... As they say: If you are smart, you can pretend to not be. The reverse is much harder. Use your intelligence to be mindful about what you read!
