So I got a book about the 14th century— “a violent, tormented, bewildered, suffering and disintegrating age, a time, as many thought, of Satan triumphant”

Ok. About “10%” in now (lame Kindle way of denoting reading progress).  This book absolutely rocks. Tuchman is a divine writer. The way she puts things is so great. And the time period itself is fascinating.

And Tuchman describes the people of the Middle Ages as a foreign species. The way they act totally incomprehensible to most modern ppl. She says that by studying this part of history, we can learn what aspects of humanity are truly innate cause otherwise they are so diff

Really an interesting choice! A Distant Mirror does a great job of showing how history can be a mirror for understanding the present. The 14th century, with all its chaos and crises, seems to have a lot to say to us today.

The 14th century definitely seems like a time of extremes, I’m curious to know more about that era. Can u please more explain?
