I basically have had the complete opposite attitude as Naomi recently. I am so overwhelmed by the evil/sin/corruption around me I am beginning to rethink the concept I’ve always held that you can redress sin with good works in the world. People are so awful and evil to me that it makes it hard for me to grasp God’s forgiveness. It is sheer insanity for most to be granted that mercy given how inherently and deeply evil they are

I'm sorry that you have to witness so many horrible people around you. Well, not saying that crypto hasn't often pushed me to the edge of believing in human good - but irl around me I know too many really decent people which helps. I don't know how to actually address the evil, the self-centeredness. I do feel like something that gets people closer to some sort of divine would be to recognize that we're all interdependent, and no it's not all of your own making and you aren't entitled to much, but you are probably indebted to many (family, community, nation whatever larger context we wanna pick). At least that thought keeps me being humble and not be an awful person to others.

None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. Redemption is only possible through divine grace, good works infeasible

I tend to see it dualistically: yes humans can be terrible assholes to each other, but as a species we are freaking awesome. We've accomplished, discovered and built so much, and we love giving the impossible a big fat middle finger. Sure we cock up a lot, but we are constantly learning from those cock ups. And we are capable of showing love and kindness, given that Maslows needs are properly met. It's just sad that a lot of people decide not to out of fear. The natural evolutionary man is not easy to overcome.

I agree, it's hard to forgive the evil that people do. But I think people are more selfish than evil, not so many people would do bad things, just because they want to hurt someone or do something nasty. A lot of people would think (sometimes even subconsciously) about themselves, what would be better for them and what would make them feel better in any given situation. And they would choose that option over something that would benefit someone else and hurt them. This is the way bad things get done most of the time. So I think the best way to approach it is to expect that from people and focus on the good things in your life and in this world in general. That makes it a lot easier to forgive those people, that did something bad.

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal." — 2 Corinthians 4:13-18
