Why haven’t we found out WTF happened in 1971? Is there a book about this?

I'm probably missing something, and a book would be very interesting, but I've always though this was a straw-man "mystery": • The first personal computer was in 1971. • The first electronic stock market (NASDAQ) as in 1971. • Gold standard was ended by Nixon in 1971. Because of these three things, humans have become really good at maximizing productivity-per-dollar and a more efficient allocation of capital.
