a few months ago i had an exciting but overwhelming startup idea, and a few weeks ago i casually mentioned it to a dev i know from farcaster, and he said, “i want to build this with you.” it still feels unreal, but here we are. so i had a call today with a designer he was already working with (also from farcaster) — the first meeting just to get to know each other. i asked if they could turn on their camera, but they said no. “what’s the point of a first call if we can’t even see each other?” two minutes later, we agreed it wasn’t going to work. now, i’m curious: is it common in crypto to work with people who prefer to stay faceless? would you start a project with someone who refuses a video call? also, still looking for a designer

I think a good chunk of people here prefer anonymity, or at least pseudonymity. I myself prefer to keep my face hidden on calls. What type of project you working on? I don't have a lot of designer experience but looking to break in.

I also don't really like being on video, because I keep checking how I look and it distracts me. Also I prefer doing something with my hands to focus on the audio, and that doesn't usually work with a video call. But I agree the first introduction should be in video form, if only for 5-10 minutes. Just so you can visualise who you are talking to 😅

I would want to see and meet the person even if it is only for 5 minutes

Sounds like good instincts on your behalf. Especially given all the recent news with clanker Id say it’s relatively common for devs to want to remain publicly faceless so they can maintain privacy. But if they’re that secretive on an intro call it’s probably a red flag

if we are going to do business we need to see each other faces.

It's understandable to expect face-to-face interaction, especially when starting a new project. In the crypto world, some people value anonymity, but finding a balance is key. Keep searching for a designer who aligns with your communication preferences and project vision. Good luck!
