Who can I best reach out to to discuss on-chain settlements of cross-border e-commerce txs?

1/ i think the ecosystem of financial dapps are very well suited to our historical skills and expertise. and i think there’s so much opportunity for impact there. beyond that, i’m excited about pretty much every vertical: NFTs, gaming, social, etc.

1/ we’ve already been investing  in ethereum L1 development on things like 4844: https://www.coinbase.com/blog/supporting-eip-4844-reducing-fees-for-ethereum-layer-2-rollups. i expect that to continue.

Does Coinbase intend to build any public good-type projects on Base or primarily fund others via the ecosystem fund?

my high level perspective is that the last 5 years have been very “chain centric.” this has worked for a very small number of dedicated (and incentivized) participants...

coinbase have any plans to fund projects built on base?

Building /stokefire a mobile strategy game onchain. Run and own poolfish.xyz a calculator for LP providers. Built Potion solo and sold for $300k.

What advantages does Base have over existing L2s?

we’re bringing ERC4337 to base, in collaboration with the ethereum community. in the interim, folks like gelato + safe make this really easy.

i see account abstraction as absolutely critical for:

- gasless transactions
- sane wallet recovery/redundancy
- minimizing hack risk (e.g. through outflow rate limits)

Can you say more about how Base implements account abstraction and some of the use cases you are excited about?

1/ overall, we think there’s still so much opportunity to (0) make it easy to build dapps on L2; (1) make it easy for users to use dapps on L2; (2) help users find those products that are really useful. if we can do that, we’ll unlock the ability to bring huge numbers of users onchain.

What does "accessing Coinbase's 100M+ users" look like in practice for developers?

What does base need to do to achieve credible decentralization? How far away do you think that is?

1/ they are going to have a lot of similarities at first! and they both are going to benefit from the security, scalability, and decentralization investments we jointly make in the OP Stack. we think that’s good!

What's different about Base vs the OP L2 from a developers standpoint?

we started our way towards base in late 2021, but it took a few iterations to realize we should be building an L2.

we started in earnest on base in late summer last year with a small scrappy team. that team still makes up the core, but we have 100+ contributors from across the company who’ve made base possible.

How long did it take to go from 0 --> release candidate for base?

we’ve really enjoyed working with the OP Stack. it’s open source, MIT licensed, and well designed. it also has a really solid spec that will make it possible to go multi-client pretty quickly.

yes, i think we could have built base a number of different ways. but we’re excited to be building on the op stack!

What was working with the OP-stack like? Would base have been possible without it?

we don’t think it’s “optimistic” OR “zk rollup” - we see the proving technology as an implementation detail of the broader rollup construct.

one of the reasons we’re excited about the OP stack is that it’s built to be modular, so we’ll be able to add in a zk prover as the technology matures.

we actually landed on the base name in one of our early iterations before we were doing the L2. we loved it and bought the domain. that iteration wasn’t it, but it led to us realizing we should build base. so here we are.

we think that with base we can make it easier for devs to build on L2 and for users to use applications on L2. and we can do that in a way that is deeply connected to Ethereum, other L2s, and even other L1 ecosystems.
