I've invented cryptographic protocols and advanced distributed systems, but I swear to god Javascript is the hardest damn thing in the world to make work correctly sometimes.

I truly mean it for either. Typescript is kind enough to lull people into Stockholm syndrome over javascript's transgressions

I love js but today I spent 2 hours fighting with tooling and I thought ‘nobody else needs to experience this, this can’t be normal’

What other language do you prefer? I feel like network effects of TS/JS have won and would need a really heavy effort to be broken Nearly any tutorial for building rich apps with UI etc exists Alternatives lack mostly in UI Go, Python, Rust are all nice but how to build + maintain a webpage in 15mins with nice UI

Eh, none. Closest I’d say is maybe php for backend, not sure on the UI side. Js is still the best but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck at times. Ecosystem is unbeatable for sure. To clarify I’m a JS dev through and through, I just hate fighting with build tooling.
