On the off chance I can save somebody: Supermaven (I believe?) recently released an update that bound the escape hotkey. Which is a problem if you're a vim bindings user. I originally thought my keyboard was broken when it was just Supermaven eating escape clicks. You can add the following snippet to your keybinds to overwrite the supermaven binding, and keep your vim escape.

USDGC Spoilers ahead: Proctor's rollaway is what I imagine a disc golf themed nightmare would look like. Except I'd be naked and my high school teachers would be in the gallery yelling at me why I didn't get my homework done. But other than that exactly the same.

Took a longish break from Chess. Probably the longest since I started playing. Came back and feel stronger than ever! Remember to take breaks, I think it helps consolidate a lot of ideas.

I love the idea of the "Hello, World!" program. It is, of course, just the minimum production of code. Just 'getting it to work'. But it crops up in other places, too, and I enjoy that. When I need something to display, or some temporary text, the first thing I always write is "Hello World". A program's first words often proclaim it's existence. I am here! Hello, World!

Hitting Rollin Ridge tonight. One of my favorite courses in Wisconsin, if you find yourself in the middle of Wisco for some reason, it's worth the drive. https://udisc.com/courses/rollin-ridge-sU10

I think the last time I really had 'fun' on the internet was early fortnite. What are some experiences you're having on the internet today that are really *fun*? Games? Projects?

Hey all, maybe you can help me? Thinking of a small RAG project, but would prefer to run it locally. My idea would be to use langchain, vectordb, but I'm not quite sure on the inference/embeddings part yet. Is there a commonly used way to generate embeddings from documents? Are there local ways to generate them? Thanks for helping a dummy out!

Last night I had cut up fruit topped with lime juice and honey, and it was insane. Please try it. I don't know how I haven't had it before, it's so simple. But it was a banger.

I need to cast something today, but my brain is fried because I drank 1000 margaritas yesterday. So here's the recipe for Death & Co's Margarita, batched for 12 cocktails: Blanco Tequila (I used kirkland, iykyk): 24 oz Cointreau: 9 oz Lime Juice: 12 oz Agave Nectar: 3oz Combine and optionally pre-dilute w/ some additional water, and also optionally add a dash of saline. This batch would fit in two 750ml bottles, but I did it in a big decanter. These can be chilled in the freezer before drinking. Serve over ice in a glass with salted rim.

McBeth Effect Episode #1 is pretty great so far! Really shows the amount of effort and care McBeth is putting into growing the sport. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpFpzNhcscs

I used to be obsessed with perfection. Shit, even getting this cast birthed into the world is a struggle. As I've gotten older however, I've started to enjoy sucking more. Which, hilariously, probably leads to faster progress. Go out and suck at stuff.

In chess, one of the core tenets of improvement is "don't make the same mistake twice". In chess, you have to remember, because you can't reference anything in a game. In real life, we get to use these beautiful things called checklists, where we can store all of the mistakes we've made before, and tick them off one by one, until we're perfect, or until we make the next mistake. Make checklists, systems, automations. Do not forget to externalize things. It makes life easier.

I love when days feel longer than they should. It's that moment you check your watch and say, "Holy shit, it's only 3? Today has been great. I got this done and we went and did this and that and it's still sunny out! Man what are we gonna do for the rest of the night?" I don't know how make it happen, but I do urge you to look for this feeling when you can.

When's the last time you came to terms with the fact that you aren't as good as you think you are? It was always easy for me to shield myself and say "man I could do that if I wanted..". Is there something you're putting off because you're scared of getting it wrong? The actual doing it, that's the hard part. Win or lose.
