No, they didn’t comply to the order to build a backdoor. Instead they removed encryption all together.

The way I understood it is that the encryption in question was just “archived” data. ie. don’t use iCloud. your iMessages are still e2e, no back door.

guess the issue is a lot of iphone users use icloud backup, so any backups will be readable by the five eyes agencies - people sometimes use it to upgrade from one phone model to another, so its inevitable that it'll lead to a lot of data leakage
