one of my videos on tiktok recently got picked up by the algo and now I’ve gained “a lot” of followers from it even tho it’s not the type of content I usually post and now I feel obligated to post that content which has made me not post anything in the past couple weeks where the video has been flying with views I don’t feel that obligation here though, and I wonder if the main difference is that I know people here in real life? So I know that (some of) my followers here know me as the multifaceted human I am? might research this a bit more to figure out how to make folks more comfortable posting about multiple topics and content types in /uno

new conclusion unlocked: smaller, known audiences help users feel more comfortable posting variable content

For me it’s because of channels, they set the expectation. I have the same feeling of being pigeon holed on twitter and Instagram.

Do you think you’d feel the same way if Warpcast had millions of users? I believe a similar urge would arise if you were an unknown account and saw 100x following after posting a certain type of content

this does sound like a self-serving bias. a similar issue was observed on YouTube with Nikocado Avocado, who filmed himself binge eating, and others making different viral video types Nikocado continued this practice for years, possibly under the effect of subconscious pressure to perform for the audience in order to retain or increase his perceived social status (watches/subscribers) generated by the earlier videos, obviously ignoring the risks this type of behavior is normally associated with “victim of your own success” seems to be a fitting summary here

My wife has a big TikTok account and it takes a couple of weeks / month to adjust the content, as well as a lot of live with the community. She is documenting the education of a bilingual child, so the content has to evolve with the education and the kid's age :-) https://www.tiktok.com/@shlind

channels help a lot. Even if people get some crazy manga take in their feed because of me, I don't feel so bad posting into /manga-anime

Partly it’s finding ways to present the right content to the right audience. Some people may not care seeing differing types of content from the same person. Some will care

It's always a bit weird when I get a bunch of new followers for a random post that isn't necessarily a reflection of my normal content. I basically just cast what's on my mind, a public journal documenting my life, and stuff just sort of goes wild sometimes.
