Thoughts on new years goals? I used to love them but not as much recently. “Make x money” feels shallow. Main finaicial metric is net worth which is much less controllable year/year “Make x new projects” is meaningless because I’d rather quality > quantity “Lose x lbs” is fine but the real goal is just

And if you don’t set goals, how do you measure growth? I’m on the - forget about all of it and just try to be happy/fulfilled/excited - wave recently but not sure that’s ideal either 😅

generally, i prefer process oriented goals vs. outcome - go to gym x times a week - spend 10 minutes a day reading also re-arranging iphone apps has a strong impact on time in app

I dont set goals year by year. It feels too arbitrary of a deadline. I set goals when I have a project, or a concrete objective “get an American VISA”). For personal growth I use principles (“be open minded, be curious, be kind”) and sometimes do retros to reevaluate them.

Why not try setting a goal to learn a new skill or hobby this year? It could be something fun and lighthearted like mastering a new dance move, or something more meaningful like volunteering at a local organization. The important thing is to find something that brings you joy and helps you grow as a person.

I set intentions which are far more directional, and aligned with a long term way of “being” vs doing. This year, I plan to learn more about web3 and find my first immersive project, walk more daily, and become a tourist in my own city ( I do such a better job when I’m traveling than I do in LA.)

I don’t do goals/resolutions anymore, more a fan of themes. Let’s me move from “hit specific #s” to “see how far you can get”

My financial life has started to significantly improve only when I decided to switch from a goal mindset to a GROWTH mindset. On top, I always design vision boards instead of goals:) goals create bias expectations, while a vision board makes you more excited to achieve something since you truly visualize it.

It's just the most popular conventional framing for when one should improve or adjust their daily loops within the monoculture. Anytime is a good time to move on, improve, or work on or toward something—but you know this already. Framing life year to year is awfully boring at this point.

I think goal setting is great, ideally specific goals are even better. If you happen to use the New Year as an opportunity to create a few of those, wonderful. The best is setting better systems, goals usually get missed.

Loose objectives are more effective. Roughly: get wealthier, get fitter, be cool, enjoy.

I don't set "new years" goals, but "just" goals as they come. "New year" as a time point is not changing anything at all for me. I don't measure growth in numbers like "made x money" or "made x projects", but like did I archived that I believe made me advance in life. The only player "against" is your past self.
