Nearly every Elon tweet lately is an advertisement for decentralized social. His takeover of X is the main reason I became a daily Farcaster user. There are likely millions of users there who want to leave for the same reason but don't know where to go.

100000000% @nounishprof and I chatted about this on our show this morning. @balajis.eth once tweeted something about how social networks all take flavor from their founders. Musk’s X is different than jack’s twitter. Zuck’s meta is different than Microsoft’s linkedin or china’s TikTok. I think @dwr.eth is great and I’m here because of his vision and leadership. But- not everyone will agree. And maybe someday he’ll turn evil on us. Which is why what is most important to me is building farcaster so big that Dan becomes irrelevant. Don’t like what he’s doing? Take your identity and social graph to another client. Elon is really testing people’s emotions right now. Imagine if people could just switch to a different client.

I think they are all going to Bluesky (especially post Brazillian ban of X). The opposition to Elon's takeover is very palpable over there compared to here, where the focus is more on novel onchain experiences

Agreed. It's not just decentralized social, it's social not turned over to the highest bidder, part of that is decentralization, but also the battle against bots happening here (and I think we're winning) even as tipping creates largest incentive for bots. I mean, we disagree here. I was banned on X repeatedly for publishing true information. Have never been banned since Elon took over. I don't like how it's not open to SERP any more, and you need to login to read, but they can easily fix that, and the most important thing is free speech is back. That being said, I'm here because I want to see more innovation on a digital town square platform, and think building parts on blockchain is the way to go.
