What Zelda game is better: Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom?

Both are incredible You can’t really play Breath of the Wild after you play Tears of the Kingdom, but you also won’t enjoy TOTK quite as much unless you play BOTW If you’ll only ever play just one, make it Tears of the Kingdom imo

They’re both incredible. BotW does exploration better I think (I played it first so may feel the same way if I played TotK first?) - it feels incredible just to explore. TotK is more refined and I think has a better, more epic narrative. But also felt maybe too big in places - in BotW everything is there for a reason

ToTK. Improved upon BoTW and the new game mechanics give you a ton of space to be creative. I forgot the name of the mechanic its amazing to be able to build machines

Botw story is better but totk game mechanics are better Spent ~150 hrs on both though so obviously equally love them ❤️🥹

ToTK. In fact, I would go so far as to say you can skip BOTW and go right to TOTK. Except BOTW's DLC exists and was fun, so weigh that. Having played them both lots, BOTW especially, I can't bring myself to play it now that TOTK has, I think, replaced it completely.

Breath of the wild. Tears is good. But it's basically DLC

Breath of the Wild. Tears of the Kingdom is low effort copy/paste.

Both elicit consistent frame drops(easily repro’d) on their required hardware profile but ToTK is the greater experience overall (one would hope this superiority was achieved given its successor status) However, it suffers from a modern Nintendo malady of “8 hour tutorial hell” now common in all their franchises

Haven’t played the recent ones, but Ocarina of Time still stands out as a top tier game despite its age

Seven sages pondered this question for many years and eventually declared that they were equally spectacular in different ways (BoTW for redefining what a game can be and ToTK for being utterly infinitely vast)... and that Link's Awakening DX is still the best Zelda game.

Maybe I’m old fashioned, but Ocarina of Time is and probably always will be the game I measure all other Zelda games against. There’s no objective reason, but more a feel… It felt like the passion of every individual that touched that game just poured through every scene. Still playing BotW btw.

I think breath of the wild is much better if you randomly have 20 minutes to play every once in a while. it's very simple mechanically so it's easy to pick up and just jump to the next shrine, or explore. Tears of the kingdom is much more sophisticated, but with that comes a little too much quest forking
