What's something you find confusing about Farcaster or Warpcast?

No dumb questions—if it's confusing to you, likely confusing for others.

Farcaster is a 3 part system:

1. Onchain — identity primitive (FID), whether you paid for access (storage)

2. Hubs — where all your content, follows and profile are stored; relies on onchain elements to verify that everything is valid

3. Apps — access data from Hubs to build a product that people can use

Still not fully sure how Farcaster works behind the scenes.

What hubs do.
What the relationship is with Optimism (or whatever L2 Farcaster is doing stuff with).

And when I went to the site a few days ago I mostly saw videos instead of text to read or search through for relevant content.

Farcaster is a protocol and Warpcast is an app (i.e. client).

Other examples:

World Wide Web (i.e. DNS and HTTP) is a protocol and Google Chrome or Safari are apps (i.e. clients).

Email (i.e. SMTP and IMAP) is a protocol and Gmail and Hotmail are apps (clients).

I'm here: "I have no idea what the difference is between Farcaster and Warpcast and at this point I'm too afraid to ask" 😃

1/ Yep. My best explanation:

- We want anyone to be able to sign up for Farcaster via Warpcast w/o a pre-existing Ethereum wallet or crypto

- We generate a new Ethereum wallet for every user in Warpcast and secure with passkey; we handle the onchain registration on behalf of the user—web2 parity for onboarding

I think it’s a little confusing what the wallet “associated with” your Farcaster account is. Like the difference between your farcaster-generated wallet and the wallet(s) you “normally” use and how they all relate to your FC identity

Nomenclature; Joined when it was Farcaster, now it's Warpcast, and not "Warpcaster." - Some time spent on branding (which is part of the UX) would help I think.

If there is no fee, Hubs will quickly fill up with spam

storage. why are we paying for storage? i know what we get for the $5 (casts, follows, reactions etc.) but i don't understand why we need to pay for it and where that money is going.

That’s the business model for the protocol.

For Warpcast, we plan to do small txn fee for onchain actions related to Farcaster account and subscriptions.

What is the business model other than storage?

Genart collector. Tinkerer. Investor. Crypto maximalist. Nomadic traveler w/ my wife and 3 kids. Temporarily settled-ish in Spain

It's an evolving thing. Should have a clearer, simpler model in the next month or two.

What's up with the NFTs and channels and owners? I can see that some channels have owners, so if I buy a channel NFT am I a part owner of that channel? And what responsibilities do owners have?

If you pay every for the sufficient storage amount of storage, yes

Haven't been following the details on all the storage talk.  One thing I like about 𝕏 is being able to search my tweets from 5 years ago.
Will I be able to do this on Farcaster or not? (If the answer is "it depends", how to ensure I can?)

The name of the app Warpcast instead of Farcaster, when you cast the order of the “cast now” button.

Adding another Farcaster app requires an onchain transaction.

Warpcast abstracts away the crypto payment on mobile (partially because of App Store rules) to do it with in-app payments.

My theory is gas fee paid in ETH doesn't feel the same as $0.99 in "real money".

What was the fuss about the $0.99 transaction on Warpcast? I never saw it myself so I’m not sure if/how I would be affected by it.

No need for a Hub. You can use an app (i.e. client) that connects to a Hub.

Similar to email, you don't need to a run server to have an email address. You let Google run the mail servers for you while you use Gmail the app (i.e. client).

So many apps!! I feel like I need to take some time to understand the benefits of them all. 

Also — hubs. Do I need one? Why or why not?

How are Bitcoin or Ethereum nodes? Plenty of non-miner / non-staker nodes on the network?

If the network has valuable data, people will want direct access to it assuming you keep costs reasonable.

How hubs are going to be incentivised long term without being super centralised.

Why there is no video. Need it for when you finally open the climbing channel!

Editable casts (or tweets) are just nice UX.

You can't change the content of a cast and have the incoming reactions be valid (also if you change the meaning the like shouldn't be attached to that).

So from a priority, lower since you can always delete and cast it again.

Since casts are not on chain, are there big technical issues in the way implementing editable casts? Or adding a channel after casting?
