Best tips for indoor plants? Assume I have solid light and air flow. Always feels like the watering is tricky.

It's gonna amount to "buy what you like and see what you can keep alive" for most people, I think. I don't think there's any shame in that. For me, I can keep plants alive that show me when they're thirsty and recover happily when I soak the soil thoroughly: - Big spider plants - ZZ - Pothos - Snake - Ponytail palm

For the “easy” plants (ZZ, snake, pothos) you’re more likely to kill with overwatering than underwatering

Most people over water. If they are sad and the soil is moist, that’s the issue.

I learned that I was overwatering my plants and it needs to dry out between watering (depends on the plant but generally more plants are killed by overwatering than underwatering) cc @js for teaching me this!

I don’t claim to have a green thumb, but I’ve somehow never killed an indoor plant and I’ve had of all sorts. I always water at most once a week and I make sure to completely soak all the soil. Basically run it under the tap until it’s draining out the bottom.

yeah the water outdoors can be automated but indoors is hard. forget way too often have generally resorted to plants that are hard to kill e.g. snake plants

We went to a plant store and they gave us specific, unintuitive instructions for our money tree (Allow soil to dry 100% b/w watering). You can probs find similar instructions for your plant. Then we bought a moisture probe: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B099R6BQHB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

@mk nailed it. If sad and moist, let the soil dry out all the way and then water a bit and see what happens. Normally spruce right up. If not, may be some root rot and will need to pull that off and replant.
