Have you ever bought or sold a restaurant reservation on one of these websites? https://www.newyorker.com/news/our-local-correspondents/why-you-cant-get-a-restaurant-reservation

Nope. I met a founder in this restaurant reservation space a while back and they were explaining how this elusive exclusivity and power they have on knowing certain people to get you a seat to dine at some restaurant. Like they were bragging to me how they got some VC dinner hours before. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

also tried Dorsia - cost / minimum spend was consistently not compelling for a 2 person res.

No but I did love the ads for Dorsia that I saw last time I was in NYC. The American Psycho reference sent me.

In Europe there're a lot of "concierge" services that could get you a guaranteed reservation in very popular/exclusive places which makes me think that there's a market for this type of things

Nope, never bought or sold. Only ever used OpenTable, Yelp, Resy or the restaurant's in-house system if they have one. Just checked out Appointment Trader and that UX does look messy as admitted by Jonas Frey in the article.

I recently learned that there are people that you can actually text and will get you a reservation anywhere… probably the offline version of these sites
