While I wasn’t saying “communism is good,” I was saying: Capitalism is bad, actually. If you want lived experiences I’m the son of two working class parents who have been repeatedly broken down by the system they work so hard to uphold. Both are always a few paycheques from homeless in one of the richest countries on earth. You’re never going to convince me. :)

Capitalism in a book: https://www.amazon.com/Enlightenment-Now-Science-Humanism-Progress/dp/0525427570 And remember all of the abject poverty that disappeared in China after Deng embraced capitalism.

Reason, science, humanism, and progress. That can happen under capitalism, communism, or other politicial and economic systems. Capitalism focuses on rule by those with the most capital, which leads much of society's resources to be hoarded by the capitalists instead of being used to better everyone's lives or progress society.

The book is deeply flawed and to a large degree academically incorrect. This is a critical analysis of only a few pages. It doesn't serve as an example for anything except maybe that he's a hack. Also Dengism was modernized Marxism - Leninism, not capitalism. https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/d9aaad_8b76c6c86f314d0288161ae8a47a9821.pdf

I’m sure absolutely no other factors were at play, and that there have been no consequences. Thanks for the rec though. I’ll check it out.

I don't think there's much disagreement about what is capitalism, but I do think there is about what is necessitates communism. For example, people often conflate totalitarian control with communism, or full centrally planned economies, or disallowing any kind of free trade. If we remove those constraints, what are the distinguishing factors? We ignore that these systems can exist in different layers of our society, use newer technology to remove naive implementations of authoritarian control, and enhance each other.

Monopolies clearly stifle life. This is what happens when individuals have no freedom. Capitalism can lead to monopolies by corporations. Cause: people need freedom Death matches, war, clearly stifle life. This is what happens when we don't provide for everyone's needs unconditionally, (remember freedom is a need) Conclusion: we must raise awareness and educate about human needs so that people voluntarily meet everyone's needs unconditionally. It really is that simple but people refuse to accept it.
