Communism is bad, actually.

Capitalism is bad, actually.

If you want lived experiences I’m the son of two working class parents who have been repeatedly broken down by the system they work so hard to uphold. Both are always a few paycheques from homeless in one of the richest countries on earth.

Right there’s some nuance there I omitted because I was so exhausted by Dan’s debate style. 

Capitalism is very good at one thing, industrializing a country rapidly. This is because of a flywheel of exploitation (which accrues profit for the capitalist) and reinvestment by the capitalist into other growth (in search of profit).

The problem is two-fold:
1. exploitation is not defensible, especially once a country is industrialized and the quality of living is (able to be) higher
2. modern capitalists tend to sit on their profits or use them to achieve political power and basically stifle the system’s dark efficiency

Capitalism is not "bad" per se.
It is a necessary development step but already exhausted. 

The society needs a more social system where everyone is accepted and with equal opportunities.. where the gap between the 1% and the 99% does not exist or it has become smaller.. and with no wars but international collaboration.. 

The collective power of Society makes not sense if we are fighting each other instead building a better future.. (we may fail, but I think we should try..)

That’s the thing that drove me crazy about this “debate.”

It wasn’t one. For a brief moment, he countered with a few sources Im pretty sure he didn’t even read. And when I broke down that they proved my point that the LBBC is propagandist nonsense full of factual inaccuracies, he didn’t address it, and spent the rest of the time trying to strawman me. 

My only points were:
1. there exist leftist possibilities outside of the worst experiments in communism (see cooperatives and how they relate to DAOs)
2. The LBBC is a bad thing to reference since it’s full of gross inaccuracies and was funded by the CIA
3. Capitalism has wrought unspeakable horror on the world and is essentially self destructive and yet he won’t even acknowledge the flaws (even in passing)

Dan really dragged himself through the mud in the comments.

When backed into a corner about his conflation of "Leftism" w/ "Communism" (and subsequent injection of counterfactual red scare garbage), he just handwaved and said "this is unproductive".

The sad truth is that he probably doesn't know the difference and is unwilling to admit that his knowledge of the left is literally nonexistent.

Dam… really feel sorry his parents sugar plantation must’ve got expropriated😔

And remember all of the abject poverty that disappeared in China after Deng embraced capitalism.

I’m sure absolutely no other factors were at play, and that there have been no consequences.

you're confusing capitalism with a dysfunctional European welfare state ruled by elites who don't care about you. 

That's not capitalism, and even, the small measure of capitalism that your parents had made your lives orders of magnitude better than the lives of people who lived under Communism(The Great Leap Forward in China which killed 10s of millions, Stalin in the Soviet Union, Venezuela, North Korea etc.)

Just the fact that you are in the position you are in right now is proof that Capitalism works. Also, I don't think you appreciate how horrible life is for most people in history. Living paycheck to paycheck is pretty good in the grand scheme of things, although we should always strive for more, and Capitalism will enable this.
