Farcaster should have (near-)unlimited length messages like twitter. Having used it for a while, I feel like twitter's long message feature improves its user experience and its usefulness for high quality discussion.

We've asked readers if they like long tweets from a UX standpoint and most people prefer to read a longer post in a browser / link vs. in feed.

why not just have it collapsable so like u have to expand it to read longer casts, but like just leave it up to the user to decide how they wanna do it (link it frame it cast it whatever u wanna do) ? i dont get why that has to be something the developers decide so exactly

I had the same thought until Twitter added a more elegant expand option in the feed. Do you think it works on Twitter? I find myself reading lots of long tweets now in a way that feels natural.

Why not spin up a separate service for long casts?

A solution that would probably satisfy nearly everyone: Top-level posts are length-limited, replies are not. Replies is where the length limit does the most damage: Debates become increasingly lossy, people talk past each other more, and resorting to the only thing that is short: dunking on each other.

Stated preference: they want to read content in idealized format Revealed preference: I just read it wherever I am and it is, and that’s most often my phone

It’s so much better to not have to leave the feed to read something. Having them collapsed is key to making the feed look uniform and uncluttered though. It’s never fun to hit a massive wall of text in the feed.

we would love the ability to send long casts. very useful on X, and that's something we're hard-pressed to admit

Honestly this is one of my main peeves about this app I think you should broaden your sample size, because long form makes posting so much easier

Fully onboard with this. Good call not to go full on long-form, especially at this first phase of growth. 👍🏼

What about those that use warpcast/fc mainly on desktop? :S I would LOVE to have unlimited character length, but I can't build my own client lel

It's not easy to pose the right question for this one... "Prefer to read this long txt as a twitter thread or as a page" is not the same as "If you are here, is it more possible to read the text here or click an external link"?

@dwr.eth i think what @vitalik.eth may be getting at is the Farcaster protocol could be flexible to accommodate myriad clients with separation of concerns and variety of UXes, while Warpcast can capture what you mentioned as just one type of many possible front ends.

My proposal was always that Twitter-like social networks should have *rich text attachments*, the way you can have an image, video, or link attachment. Then the longform text is native to the platform, but it's separated from the shortform message which retains its strict length limits Seems like best of both worlds!

/nook is a great client for writing threads and we have a frame specifically created for writing and reading long form content via /paragraph, which is crafted in a way that makes content super digestible and easy to read, within WC and clients alike. There are solutions in place that work pretty dang well IMO.

That just says that the reading experience in the app should improve. (I disagree tho, I prefer to read things on the feed)
