chat, do we really believe that the space doesn't need more virality?

Yes. Co-sign @flynn.eth on this one The word is also bad. “Virality” feels boomer / cringe and almost like an anachronism from an age where the attention economy hadn’t formed yet Folks want distribution and ownership, not a million shallow impressions https://warpcast.com/androidsixteen.eth/0x47f1353c

I like the tagline. very often —today at least— going viral is the same as getting over the cold start problem. Some builders want distribution, and I think it’s good to want to give them that. Bear in mind many others don’t want virality, and at some point you need to become a space of sustainability not one hit wonders

I think what he’s trying to say is that the virality needs to translate into ownership and income. But like, that’s the whole point of going viral onchain right? (love Brian, big fan/user of boost)

I think it depends on what we mean by virality. The space being as small as it is, means that we are constantly washed by wave after wave of meaningless virality that is restricted to the same people. Does crypto need the kind of virality that breaks out of the bubble? Possibly. But I think we've proven we're not serious enough for that yet.

idk to me why is this space so obsessed with pontificating on ethereal concepts about user behavior/desire like just build an app and see if they like it. if we don't need more of memecoins then they'll stop using memecoin apps builders- probs different. but they're building for users anyway so..

the Serious Builder posturing isn’t helping anyone imo lol, just build things that people want rather than sour grapes posts about memecoins. outcompete, don’t yap. dude is VC funded to the gills too, doesn’t have a leg to stand on with regards to incentive alignment

I found out today that apparently virality now has a negative connotation. back in the day it was used for the phenomenon where each user you acquired got another user with them. In an ideal state. Very very hard to pull off with Hotmail being on of the first to do it.

If virality means 15secs of videos, then we don't need more. If virality means more builders, then more the merrier

It's far from viral outside of crypto circles. We have a long way to go.

As someone who has built a platform for creators to go viral, most of the ways builders do this today prey on distrustful tactics like points, XP, or speculation. None of this is helpful. The only thing that is helpful is making it easy to align incentives. Ownership really means sharing revenue through tokens.
