been thinking for a while now that church services should really just be worship + small groups nobody’s trying to sit through an hour-long monologue anymore. it’s a podcast world, and if we’re gonna listen to people talk, we want to hear a conversation, not a lecture

I knew a pretty techy Christian pastor who put out a podcast on Sundays and his flock listened to that instead of attending worship - he pitched the podcast as the New New Worship basically. I found it and him fascinating.

Flipped classroom model for services would be cool! Listen to the sermon throughout the week as a podcast, discuss and act in small groups at the service.

I don’t speak Spanish well enough for the church I attend every Sunday so mostly I sit there and read the passages they read, interrogate the passage with ChatGPT and take notes. In most ways I like it way better. It feels more like church study group.

A church service shouldn't revolve around a sermon. At a traditional liturgy the priest will give a short homily (my priest sometimes gives a longer one, lol). But the point is to sing hymns, prayers, and praises to God all in service of communion with Him.
