Living in harmony with the seasons

We have pretty harsh winters where I live. How do you suppose one might live in harmony with that season? 

A lot of our fruit/veggies is imported.

to me this means enjoying the changing to heavy clothing, changing the music to the season, enjoying dim pubs, slowing down, enjoying the fire, seeing your breath
