stop listening to users. observe them, instead. people either give answers they think are expected, cant accurately remember what theyâve done in the past, or under/overestimate what theyâll do in the future.

This mostly means the person youâre talking to is not your initial target group and doesnât have the problem your solving, so Iâd file it as noise. Most valuable information is to get a referral to the person who experiences the problem. If you cannot find a set of people who have the problem then probs pivot.

I appreciate the more nuanced approach to interviews. Iâm doing this as a service for companies for the last few weeks, would you have some advice regarding sourcing? Its hard to get incentivize people respond to email surveys or cold DMs

Itâs unfortunately another âit dependsâ. Depends on your budget, the target segment/industry, the goal of the survey etc. Any cold outreach is hard unless you can afford tools like usertesting.com Happy to give more precise advice based on your context in a quick call via topmate (link in my bio) if you like?
