Day 12: Dispatches A semi-cohesive collection of spectacular gonzo flavored Vietnam War semi-journalism. Chaotic neutral on the war book alignment chart. The author worked on the scripts for Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket and this book has a lot of that energy. It also created lot of the vibe and a lot of the tropes that show up consistently in other Vietnam War movies. It’s heavy on absurdity and you constantly feel like anything could happen, but it never gets too disorienting. If you read it in a single sitting, you’d spend the next week talking like Dennis Hopper’s character from Apocalypse Now. Five stars. Definitive work

I have a favour to ask. My Telegram account has been partially restricted for weeks. I can't create groups or send DMs unless it's a reply. This is significantly affecting my coordination work. Radio silence from Telegram support—tried all channels I could find. For context I got restricted after creating a dozen or so groups titled "[zkVM vendor] + ethproofs.org". I'm guessing putting a link in the group names was the big mistake. If someone could help me get in touch with a Telegram insider I'd be extremely grateful :)

been thinking about channels ever since @ted posted this how does farcaster reward people for going deeper on a subject? how does it incentivize @matthewb to share about drinking chocolates or @keccers.eth to go deep on her health stack? basically…i want to replace my reddit searches with farcaster searches

Day nine: The Ancient City An incredible portrait of life in ancient times, centered around how early religion grew into early civic life. If you think about the Roman Empire every day and you haven’t read this yet, you should treat yourself. It’s so juicy and homey compared to the sanitized and streamlined histories of wars and large scale politics. I keep multiple copies in my house to give away so that I don’t end up losing my personal copy. The most vivid and human look at life in classical Greece and Rome. Pound for pound my favorite book on ancient times. Five stars. Keep the home fire burning 🫡

learning as much as i can about wildfires. prescribed burns are a prevention tactic to reduce the buildup of vegetation that could serve as fire fuel. it takes an avg of 4.7 yrs for a prescribed burn to get through environmental reviews. 80M acres need urgent treatment — that means now, not in 5 years. maddening!

Continually feel like the Rewards Frame is the single best way to see who's crushing it on FC the most. Every time I look into the accounts on the top 10 it makes perfect sense why they are ranked so highly. Think there's a lot more to unpack here in terms of positive competition and social rewards for placing high on a weekly basis

Apparently now we're getting Generation Beta? And then presumably in 2039 Generation Chad? This whole scheme is dumb, we should just refer to age cohorts by their decade of birth like in China.
