We are 4 months in and our 2.5 year old still refuses to take photos with her sister ๐Ÿซฃ One thing that helped her get mentally ready was carrying around a baby doll of her own. โ€œLook, mommy is changing babyโ€™s diaper! Does your baby need a new diaper too?โ€ We try not to deny her feelings if that helps. Itโ€™s

Congrats! Just welcomed #2 in October 1. Include #1 in doing stuff for the newborn 2. Depending how old #1 is, let them do new big(ger) kid things & in general just spend quality time w them individually 3. Read books about being a sibling 4. Buy a present from newborn for #1

One thing we did was take our oldest to โ€œbig sisterโ€ classes. She learned a bit, but most importantly she got a โ€œbig sisterโ€ certificate to mark her as a helpful and responsible big sister. She took that very seriously

Congrats, Corbin! We got #1 several "big brother" books, made him feel like he was part of the excitement with the new baby and had him help out with small things like setting up room or unboxing diapers.

Congratulations ๐ŸŽ‰ A friend w/older but same same age diff kids as my two (2yrs) shared that what saved her was getting the baby on the toddlerโ€™s schedule. Take the baby to play dates vs staying home for naps etc. Baby learned to sleep on the move and the toddler felt less like she was losing out to the baby demand

was a struggle at first, he eased into it; kids are people too, give them time to process their feelings, hear them out, reassure them, Your actions over time will give them comfort and make sure they feel loved and not forgotten

Congrats! When people met the baby, I'd redirect to my older kid and have him introduce her as his little sister. Probably a little awkward for the adult but it made sure my son got the attention first before the baby.

Our newborn daughter gave our 3 year old a gift when she arrived. Obviously we picked it out, but it was an ice breaker. Dunno how well that actually worked but they sure love each other at 2 and 5.
