Q: What does a NYC parent need to survive winter with small kids? A: Inflatable bounce houses. More on the brilliance and absurdity of bringing bounce houses into unconventional spaces... and a few ideas of where else you might drop in a bounce house for a little chaotic joy https://hardmodefirst.xyz/the-bounce-house-hack-every-nyc-parent-needs-this-winter

gm anyone know of AI agents I can add to a slack channel who would banter with me? LOL I asked this at a happy hour last night and was told that was a "psychotic question" but I feel like Warpcast is probably a safer space than a typical VC happy hour in NYC...

8 Coding Concepts that Finally Clicked After I Built My First App From the tabs vs. spaces debate to commenting out code, I gotta tell you... I GET IT NOW. 😆 If anyone can code... Are we all doomed? Or is this the start of a wildly creative coding revolution? Why not both? https://hardmodefirst.xyz/8-coding-concepts-that-finally-clicked-after-i-built-my-first-app

After 15 years in tech, I finally built an app—over a weekend. Meet Musekat: A playful way for parents and kids to explore art and museums together through fun, personalized audio tours. Stories narrated by Miko, the most curious meerkat around. 🐾 Check it out—what should me + Miko explore next? https://musekat.com

As a fractional worker, I’ve initiated countless new projects, built and trained teams around workflows, and ultimately passed the baton to someone else to carry the work forward. Here are a few things I've learned about how to make baton passes as effective as possible. https://hardmodefirst.xyz/the-art-of-the-baton-pass-lessons-from-fractional-work

New post: How to Manage Maternity Leave When You’re the CEO Recently I spoke with someone whose male colleague panicked so much when she told him she was pregnant that he demanded a complete transition schedule by the end of the month—despite her being only in her first trimester. Unfortunately, there are (still) lots of mixed messages about how to approach maternity leave, particularly when you're the one in charge. For those of us who work in emerging tech or startups, there often aren’t policies in place. A few thoughts and ideas here, based on my own experience and a few others I've spoken with over the years... https://hardmodefirst.xyz/how-to-manage-maternity-leave-when-youre-the-ceo

New post: When Real Life Feels Like Science Fiction Yesterday, I blogged about some AI predictive fiction books worth reading. Today's news cycle feels eerily like the pages of one of those novels come to life. @bethanymarz https://hardmodefirst.xyz/when-real-life-feels-like-science-fiction

One of my favorite ways to consider some of the broader societal, psychological, and social consequences of emerging technology is to read predictive fiction. Over the past year, I've been upping my game on reading more books about the impact of artificial intelligence on our lives and thought I'd share a few books that I read recently, along with the ones on my shortlist to read next. https://hardmodefirst.xyz/some-novels-ive-read-recently-about-the-ai-x-human-experience

What would it look like to blow up homework? A few years ago, when I invited an AI founder to visit a high school with me, he offered the provocative thought: “Rather than an essay, why not assign the students to write a whole book?” While this obviously invites a host of other problem, it does make a compelling point: We aren’t thinking big enough. In the era of the so-called "homework apocalypse" -- is there another way to evaluate critical thinking & synthesis outside of the traditional take-home essay? After all, if we want the next generation to think bigger than we do today, that mindset needs to start in the classroom. With AI, no problem is too small. And no idea is too big. In this post, I unpack this problem a bit more and explore a few ideas for things to assign for homework that aren't papers... https://paragraph.xyz/@bethanycrystal/things-to-assign-for-homework-that-arent-papers I wonder... what would an AI-supercharged assignment look like in your field?
