ETH mainnet is unusable again. $150 in gas to make a swap. On one hand this is extremely bullish for L2s and showing how far along they are. On the other - it's really hard to see how any regular person ever uses mainnet during the bull market. Also - a tx on BTC costs less than ETH... which is insane.

Way more demand on ETH L1 than BTC L1. Much of BTC trading is happening via custody (CEXs) or on Ethereum and other blockchains via WBTC. So it’s really not a sensible comparison

If the expected value of the onchain action they are taking exceeds the gas cost then they can easily justify using ETH mainnet

L2's need to build as L2's to some extent. A lot of L2 strategy is less about leveraging Ethereum, and more about building out standalone ecosystems with little concept of connected back to Ethereum (outside of any rollup which doesn't affect the end user in most cases).

I couldn’t believe it… $200 to put up a proposal for Lil Nouns the other night… mind you a proposal that needs to be voted on by the community, so there’s a chance it doesn’t pass. 😳 Makes me bullish on DAO migration to L2s 🫡

Even @base is expensive (for a regular person). It should get better with the upcoming Dencun upgrade. Still, until the tx costs are 1 cent USD at max we will not have any mass adoption.
