my personal (PERSONAL) take is that it’s fine and good for VC-backed teams to get RPGF, but they should disclose their funding status on their applications so that badge holders can make informed decisions

Sad, but realised it will always happen. Folks need to pick the right delegates to fund the right projects!

I think private companies can create public goods and should be rewarded for it. impact == profit

Wasn’t one of the points of rPGF that it serve as an alternative to the traditional “exit”? I remember reading an early rPGF post about back propagating the same kind of risk-taking incentives but for creating public goods

If they didn’t want VC funded startups to apply, they should’ve set that rule from the start? If a startup participates and wins because they had more impact then the grant did what it intended For a space where “code is law” there’s a lot of “people should/shouldn’t do this” energy lol

A VC backed company can choose to devote resources to public goods development Why should that make the company ineligible for RetroPGF?

as i wish rpgf was skewing into funding pure, non profit open source, i don’t have anything against private companies creating public goods in crypto it’s a bit of a mess since people lunch token and ponzus next to it, but ideologically i don’t have anything against it but unfortunately grifters will grift

There are many projects on this list that charge fees for profit, which is literally the definition of NOT a public good.

I understand the frustration others might have with it, and wouldn't personally be comfortable accepting rPGF for something I made on "company time" but I think it's a strong indication of incentive realignment. There is more reward for building to solve a problem without a business model, and I'm all for that.

There is no problem with that EXCEPT if they end up getting the bulk of funding. Most teams/companies/individuals are not VC-backed so it would create a vicious cycle of same people getting more money....what about the values of Web3? financial inclusivity, access etc?
