Considering moving my personal email domain to iCloud. I trust Apple more than Google. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212514

Why do you trust Apple more than Google? Why not consider another service such as Proton instead?

Push back on FBI e2ee in iMessage Advanced data protection I think Google is as good or better at the security, but ultimately their business model requires more compromises. And yes I know Apple has an ad biz.

Didn't Apple push back e2ee on iCloud for several years because the FBI didn't want them to do it? (And even now it's not on the by default) https://www.reuters.com/article/us-apple-fbi-icloud-exclusive-idUSKBN1ZK1CT

I think Apple has been struggling with the trade off between having the high security of E2EE iCloud and having lots of people permanently lock themselves out of their iCloud accounts (and the resulting bad press from this). Having this as a dedicated non-default feature for the enthusiasts is probably the sweet spot.

The article paints a different picture? Feels like when it's convenient to lock out competitors, Apple "cares about privacy". When it's inconvenient, Apple "cares about UX". Though being honest, I don't feel either Apple nor Google deserve our generous reads at this point.

Hmm article refers to sources inside Apple, I believe narrative is contradicted by other sources. truth is probably along the lines of * Can’t do E2EE default since too many ppl would lose photos of their kids * Having it as option is good privacy PR * FBI probably OK with it since most criminals won’t turn on
