I’ll repeat this 1000 more times: consumer social apps in 2023 require a mobile-first experience. The last time desktop-first worked was in 2010.

I totally agree. But: I believe (you have the data, maybe I'm wrong) that mobile is where consumption takes place and desktop is where production takes place. In case of Farcaster, there's space (different clients) to optimize for both.

Depends. Look at TikTok and Instagram. Production for most users is on mobile.

Out of necessity. Instagram on desktop is completely broken. (I think they do it on purpose.) I don't even know how professional social media managers handle this. Produce the content on desktop, somehow transfer to phone, and then upload from there? It's just crazy.

I resisted for the longest time to install the Instagram app (I don't trust Zuck) but it's just pointless. You either install the app or don't use the platform. You can only create stories from the app. You can only pin stories to your profile from the app. You can only add a link to your website from the app(!).

I think the entire setup is a dark pattern to artificially inflate DAUs. You must have the app, and you must go in every day to create a new story, otherwise you have no visibility on the app. And stories go away after 24h, so there you go again the next day.
