I think taking VC money is fine. There are many valid perspectives, but mine is: "You have to take care of your people." My team needs certainty and stability, like paying for health insurance and life away from work. Everything else is second. Bootstrapping is romantic, but sadly doesn't apply equally.

My advice is to raise while you can, raise on modest terms, build a great team, and work like hell to get to the next stage. No one seems to care who you raised with in your pre-seed or seed rounds.

Do you feel like it’s easier to attract talent when you’re VC backed?

yes! vc money is fine if you are doing vc scale. funny how the bootstrapping gods: levels, dhh, gumroad have a diff bts. both 37sig and gumroad has >10MM seed. levels was right person/place/time w/ nomadlist. now he's just using his distribution to make money of ai tourists, which is also fine – hard to replicate.

Will you still need to raise if you issue a token for your project?

valid take. traditional vc fills a real need today. but tomorrow's builders might have more options - permissionless funding that provides stability without the usual tradeoffs

great cast to see at the right time...was struggling with this conflict, especially in web3 where VC investments hardly go beyond seed stage
