Even just between Apple products interoperability is improved with usb c — charge phone, ipad, and laptop with the same cable/walwart… I’m guessing since Apple never used lightning to charge MacBooks, it’s necessary to cover the connectors due to the wattage required for laptops.

Lightning is the superior connector and I wish it was the one to be widely adopted instead of USB-C. (specifically talking about the connector, not features etc.)
