I’m contemplating leaving a cushy W2 job to take a serious run at something I’ve been envisioning for a decade, and is now technologically possible. Convince me not to.

only reason not to, is if you dont have 12+ months expenses of cash on hand have a good amount of cash runway and make sure you dont have many responsibilities (like kids)

Married with two kids under 5. If you know anyone who’s done it under those circumstances, tag them. :)

I am. 3 year old and 1 year old :) If there’s a way to start while still working your job that could be best. I didn’t do that. But takes off the risk.

So many reasons to not do it. Find at least 1 reason it could work. I did it with 1 and 2 year old kids. Wife worked night shift as a NICU nurse and I taught guitar lessons on nights and weekends to keep the bills mostly paid. By far the hardest, yet rewarding, time in our lives.

Much different circumstances for us when we were at that stage, yet the defining factors that allowed us then, and now, for me to farm (read work crazy hours in season 90-100/wk) and raise young kids was my wife’s capacity to focus on the kids and health insurance being sorted - through state subsidy. HC costs would be my biggest concern these days if it was currently through you’re employer depending on where you live. Though equally so is a true understanding of time commitments to the family and hours necessary to focus on work. No paid holidays etc etc, In some ways it’s easier when the kids are young cause there schedule is more flexible and you can plan a bit around your or your wives schedules for trips etc.
