I am very impressed by how well Discord has executed recently. It’s popular in the web3 community, but the slew of new features they’ve added — from Reddit-style forums to Substack-style subscriptions — has really leveled up the platform. It’s truly a private social network. Maybe the most innovative of web

As just one example, this is a major new feature. On par with essentially building Reddit into the app. Somehow they squashed this giant thing into the UX and it works fairly well! https://discord.com/blog/forum-channels-space-for-organized-conversation

Hard to keep track of multiple discords at once though. Discoverability suffers on discord, cf aggregated feed of reddit (but that doesn’t have the customisation of discord). Excited for new community hubs to sprout up. Personally focusing on solving for better discoverability.

Totally. Also Clubhouse-style voice chats. And what I'm most excited for: they're building a home feed with recommended top posts from your community. That team is definitely building great product. And it's becoming a very diff beast than rest of web2.

Hope to see a better UX to help users to manage memberships within multiple discord communities. Really hard to manage everything on one side bar lol.

Interesting, haven't seen them yet. If they fix the overwhelming UX you face when you're a part 10+ channels they'd get to the next level imo :)

If only they would make "no DMs from strangers" a default setting, would help a lot of newbies from being scammed

Discord is just so busy now. When you join a new server, usually there are > 20 channels, all kind of stale. You have to trial+error through the server rule process. idk it‘s just overwhelming and I don‘t like it. Many projects would be fine with 1-2 channels. Also: Are ppl still using it?

Their different culture and audience is letting them be all of the things that Slack failed to be. It’s been quite amazing for a couple of years already.

I think Discord is doing a lot of things right but they still cause information overload. We’re working on a web3 discord with forums connected to snapshot. A lot less nosier and more web3 native. Check us out at zo.me
