The most worrisome part: we’re dealing with a limited repertoire of demonstrably false claims whose source is easily traceable. I think the headline should have been: “People believe disinformation to an alarming degree” (not just Americans, and not just russian disinformation), because it’s not only russian lies that people fall for. Millions believe Israel’s propaganda and lies while they openly commit genocide and war crimes that are live-streamed 24/7. So the worrisome part for me is that in 2025, with access to so much information, it feels like people are consciously choosing to believe the propaganda and disinformation.

Yes, trusting “news” cooked up somewhere near St. Petersburg (Olgino🤣) has basically become an American tradition) And X is a full-on den of Russian propaganda.

Yeah, it’s crazy to me that people believe any of it :( They pour so much money into seeding their propaganda, and it always feels like it works really well - no amount of effort to disprove those lies seems to be working. The sad thing is, those lies spread like wildfire, while the truth about all the atrocities they commit, especially in occupied cities, is barely ever talked about.

We have major news networks pushing it and sophisticated algorithms driving it for more than 10 yrs. I’d say it’s pretty sophisticated and will only become more so with AI.
