“Fromm suggests we should place less emphasis on finding an impossibly perfect partner, and more on honing our capacity for love and commitment.” This kind of attitude brings satisfaction in many areas, not just romantic relationships. While hardly revolutionary, it still can be revolutionary to practice. https://philosophybreak.com/articles/erich-fromm-on-why-love-is-not-about-finding-the-one/

Friday's presidential debate in Poland featured all the usual contenders—and one guy named Maciak. When another candidate posed the perfectly reasonable question, 'Who are you?', his answer did little to resolve the mystery. Seems like every country needs its own Georgescu. https://polanddaily24.com/the-enigma-of-maciej-maciak-russian-mouthpiece-or-just-another-candidate/poland-today/54126

Some readers may find it strikingly familiar: • Protests framed as foreign-instigated attempts at a “leftist” revolution • Protesters stripped of personal agency and genuine grievances, and portrayed as puppets of foreign agendas • The government weaponizes fear, e.g. branding protests as chaos https://edmo.eu/publications/the-authoritarian-playbook-how-governments-in-georgia-slovakia-and-serbia-employ-similar-disinformation-narratives-and-tactics-against-protests/

Russia: Our country will become a great superpower, and Trump will help it Only Russia, Belarus, North Korea and Cuba, the first three of which are involved in the war of aggression in Ukraine, escaped US tariff fire. Russian experts see this as an opportunity for Russia. 🧵 https://www.hs.fi/maailma/art-2000011150453.html

In a world full of chaos and uncertainty, it's comforting to know some things just never change. One reason why an army that looked mighty on paper failed to carry out what should have been a straightforward “military operation” is that cases of similar nature still happen even today.

“The Base, terrorist group founded in 2018, free to export violence abroad as Trump pulls FBI from pursuing far right” “This isn’t the first time the Base, which has made recent strides in rebuilding its American membership, started appearing in Europe. Last year, members were arrested in Belgium, the Netherlands, and in Italy where authorities cracked down on a Base cell that it said had ties to a network of Russian far-right terrorists recruiting from Telegram.” 👊🇺🇸🔥 https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/05/the-base-neo-nazi-russia-ukraine/

It's worth being cautious about taking guidance from someone who acknowledges having little meditative experience yet claims to have mastered all the jhānas in mere hours. Even Siddhārtha Gautama, who is considered to have been a rather skillful meditator, took a bit longer than that…

The concern here, though, is not precisely that chicken is washed with chlorine, but rather the conditions under which it is farmed. And chlorine can make food-borne pathogens undetectable, which results in lower microbial counts in testing, but doesn't actually kill them.
