The most worrisome part: we’re dealing with a limited repertoire of demonstrably false claims whose source is easily traceable. If such basic propaganda proves chillingly effective, what havoc might a truly sophisticated disinformation campaign wreak?https://www.forbes.com/sites/emmawoollacott/2025/04/22/americans-believe-russian-disinformation-to-alarming-degree/

We have major news networks pushing it and sophisticated algorithms driving it for more than 10 yrs. I’d say it’s pretty sophisticated and will only become more so with AI.

The point is that it isn't very sophisticated on the level of content, or at least it’s not sophisticated when it’s reduced to a limited, well-known core. The machinery spreading it is indeed fine-tuned. That’s precisely the problem here: what happens when not only the algorithm is very effective, but also the message is so refined that even the most reasonable people will fall for it? You could argue it’s already happening, but I think it still can be remedied.
