For weeks now, the only ads that I see on X are scams pretending that Elon is airdropping or pre-selling a token. Reporting them does nothing — they show up again the next day with different wording, pictures, and authors. Is this the new normal in X’s libertarian, anything-goes experiment that even scammers get a free pass, so long as they pay for ad space? I can’t imagine that X is unaware, given the number of reports being made. So, incompetence or malice?

What do you use x for? Genuine question. I can only imagine it is both because he doesn't have the infrastructure to deal with it and he doesn't care anyway.

After a certain amount of inaction, incompetence becomes deliberate and is a form of malice.

Weird. I do the same topics on X as you, and haven’t seen any of these. But for two straight months I got ads for some hunting game that were just real videos of dogs getting shot. Thankfully those finally quit.

Ad spend is measurable. UX because of low quality ads or even scams not as much. Every $ counts for now (though it will be interesting to see if the big companies and their marketing budget come back to Twitter now that musk is president.)

haven’t seen ads on twitter for a loooong time now since I got premium, which is also required if you want proper reach for your posts it’s still necessary to follow along over there, even though purple app usually has a much more enjoyable, cozy vibe

These kinds ads are all over YouTube too. Apparently quality is no longer a factor on these ad platforms.

Warped and disfigured form of onboarding new crypto users while at the same time, widening crypto’s total addressable market: 1) Rug them right off the bat so they learn what they’re getting into (the Wild West) 2) When they report it as fraud, it goes nowhere (the Wild Unregulated West) 3) Piss off enough newbies and if the money lost gets into high enough into billions, it gets on the radar of the SEC’s new chair to establish guard rails for crypto And BAM! We have a regulated crypto market. Zuckerberg can more safely onboard users in his Metaverse and they can use crypto to transact; Elon’s D.O.G.E. secures one of its first wins. 🤨
