For the first time since starting running again, today actually felt like running and not jogging.
I started quick, I felt good, and decided to push it to see if i could complete the 5km at a speed that felt much more natural, rather than drop a gear and lumber along.
I didn't quite make it, as the two distances above suggest, which made me feel guilty enough to complete the distance anyway.
This has happened to me before. Two to four weeks into a new training session and i realise i have a speed i need to run at that my body actually prefers, that's no more difficult, or even actually easier than running slower. Overall time of activity at the same distance is less, posture seems to be better, contact with floor smoother.
I have trained distance so far, today was more about speed, I'm going to incorporate intervals now to work on stamina, but this felt good. This actually felt like running rather than lumbering along.

A few things change from the last time I went out. I don't dynamic stretch, I don't drink alcohol the night before, and I do go back to the park to train. The 2.1 km loop around the perimeter, the circuit i know so well I could probably do it with my eyes closed.
I'll keep this short because I felt flat today, my brain wasn't buzzing with anything much at all, so there's very little to report.
First and last kms were very hard. I didn't feel like giving up like I usually do just after setting out, but I did feel like giving up during the last km. That always seems to be difficult for me.
Brain fed me some good vibes through the second and third kms, trying to convince me I could do three laps- on the 4th km, it was clear that was a top signal (telling myself I can do x amount even before I've completed what I came to do). From then on it got difficult. Other than that, internal monologue covered kids, writing, Black Mirror reflections, relationship, and investments. 1 reply
