Can anyone explain the logic here? If only luxury goods are being exempted aren't the tariffs basically one of the most regressive tax hikes in history? Also why not give more of a heads up so that the example Cuban provides doesn't happen?

The logic is that the goals of the policy are: 1) Regressive tax hike 2) Every business has to pay Trump a bribe

Because that would discourage people making the trek to Mar A Lago & paying $1m for a sit down and to beg for tariff relief. They donβt want to hear from the ones who are too poor for the offering.

Absolutely and even before the exemptions, they were. Because poor people still buy iPhones and shit.

In your scenario, who is it that you think is supposed to care about small businesses? Small businesses that have China in their supply chain are exactly who Trump is trying to fuck over right now, and exactly the people his supporters voted to crush. They think this is all a good thing.

I've been saying this to anyone who would listen for months, sadly mfers don't get it til it hits their wallet, either with higher prices or worse unemployment. My company is in the literal position described here (not sure about using credit but the point stands with capital as well!) and more hilarious, we still have to continue development and preparing production on new products we have no idea how we are going to produce in an affordable way.
