I feel conflicted about the $VVV launch On one hand, I stan Eric Vorhees. He is an OG who has done right by this space for years, and is genuinely one of the good guys OTOH, this launch was poorly executed and not sure why Venice needs a token. Feels like opportunistic marketing, drafting off of DeepSeek attention https://x.com/chadderbiz/status/1884249907743318367

if you continue to ask why x needs a token, why z needs its own chain/rollup things will just continue to not make sense if it *can* have a token it will if it *can* have its own chain/rollup it will

something something "AI inference futures" something? clearly this has been in the works for quite a while, there's months of work at play here... but I also agree that it could have been done without a dedicated token while still having a staked bond with any collateral maybe eric just really wants to goad the new SEC into precedent?

i doubt it was totally opportunistic. likely this was in the works for a while and also he sensed a good moment and pulled the trigger early (which is maybe why its a bit sloppy) why token? when shapeshift got hit with SEC pressure, erik rebuilt it as a decentralized exchange so it could live on without compromising on his principles (eg no kyc). my read is that he learned his lesson then and is laying the groundwork for a similar move here.

prรฉcisรฉment. perhaps it's better to have _a_ token rather than none in twenty-five, but the Venice product doesn't feel like it requires that sort of market exposure. neither to develop financing nor to encourage usage we haven't gone looking for their comment so maybe we're off base (hehe) but Eric has tremendous credibility at stake. sailor would do well to clear the air

token at minimum is a great marketing push, so many people including me found out about the project for the first time

My thoughts on your counterpoints: 1) Token is onchain-native marketing. Venice needs to market to succeed 2) The screenshot for airdrop was 12/31โ€ฆ could DeepSeek specifically been in mind then? IMO, smart to launch into news around one of the exact problems you exist to solve (this would be like Drakula launching on news of TikTok ban)

I share your scepticism, very few were aware of Venice and all of a sudden, native token, cb listing and full-throated support of base bd. Feels like they saw an opportunity, AI meta, and took their shot.
