President Trump will take office on January 20. Crypto policy will immediately and significantly shift when new leaders take over the federal agencies. Between now and then, the outgoing administration may be busy finalizing rules and filing enforcement actions. Stay frosty šŸ„¶

Creating something is sometimes hilarious When you try to create purely only Thing A; you fail, it doesnā€™t work. So you do something else entirely and say screw Thing A, Iā€™m doing Thing B, and then all of sudden now, Thing A comes back knocking from within Thing B and says hey Iā€™m ready to exist now

Iā€™m not pro AI censorship I do think AI with parental controls would be cool. Parents should be able to put guardrails around AI as needed and let their kids, however young, play with them. Same as devices with parental controls, etc. I donā€™t have kids so might be missing something

The reason why "DAOs" require traditional governance is because blockchains can only do strict global consensus The assumption is you need a token to organise said governance, but this is not true. Indeed, some DAOs would be much better off following the worker cooperative or consumer cooperative model, rather than the public company model, with democratic voting and vetos for checks and balances (instead of being controlled by few whales, as it is for almost all crypto projects now - not just not decentralized, but very centralized. VCAOs, if you will, pun intended) Yeah, I get it, token gambling is crypto's big usecase, but it doesn't have to be. Building the best possible protocol to attract the most users might not be such a bad idea for the long term

I went trick or treating last night with my two older sisters for the first time since like 1993. Having kids can be pretty great sometimes.

Thoughts on Omnivore shutting down (1/2) Many people enjoyed Omnivore because it was free, but being free was part of its demise. As an independent app maker, you must have a way to generate revenue or your product will die. As a user you must demand a way to pay makers for the products you love. See my essay: "Quality software deserves your hardā€‘earned cash" https://stephango.com/quality-software I didn't personally use Omnivore, but it seems like many Obsidian users loved it. Now the app is being shut down with only a couple of weeks to export your data. While this is abrupt, it isn't surprising. When a startup runs out of resources, the end is always more sudden than you expect. The dream of making it work persists until the very last moment.
