leaderboards = interesting ingredient to incentivize a community. it leverages social capital that's not as strong as financial incentive. 

'free money' can get the core of a community perverted in a way that invites the farm and bounce behaviors

yea so leaderboard is rarely ever a product itself - at best a supporting variable

incentive of the leaderboard is counter-diffusion, and the incentive effect becomes lower as time goes by.

leaderboards are super powerful, they basically "gamify" anything

we've seen projects even reward users for their leaderboard positions, which takes it up a notch (as long as people cannot game it)

I think Blur was one of the innovators in this space with their 24hr rolling leaderboards

wohoo, seeing so many relevant posts here. leaderboards for us have gotten a 10 % + incremental uptick in DAU & WAU. 
What changed the game though was recommending paths to users lower on rank to climb up.
