Pro tip: When looking for kombucha, try to avoid brands with added sugar and other ingredients. Ideally, it should have less than 6g of sugar per serving (many quality kombuchas only have traces of sugar remaining). This ensures you're getting the health benefits of the probiotics without the unnecessary extras.

Kombucha is a fantastic alternative to beer and a great source of probiotics! I often joke with friends that kombucha is my "beer" and dark chocolate my "tobacco"—as long as the dark chocolate doesn’t contain harmful levels of lead and cadmium (which can be avoided by ensuring it’s third-party tested). 🍫 On the topic of tea, when appropriately fermented, kombucha uses up most of its sugar content, leaving you with a refreshing and lightly tangy beverage. If you’re a fan of trying new things, find bars that serve kombucha on tap—it’s a fun switch to make, and you might find yourself reaching for it more often than you think! 🍹 It’s a delightful, health-conscious option that brings the world of tea and probiotics together in a way that’s both fun and beneficial.

Here’s a fun fact: In the 17th century, the black tea that became beloved in England was actually the result of experimentation to preserve tea leaves during long voyages from China. Early shipments from China to England were often slow, and the delicate tea leaves would sometimes spoil or deteriorate. To solve this, tea producers began oxidizing the leaves, which made them more durable for travel and gave the tea a stronger, bolder flavor. This process helped black tea become a staple in England’s tea culture.

I also had the privilege of attending a tea evening in Oxford, presented by Ziming Wang (MPhil Economics), where we explored the rich history and culture of tea in China. It deepened my appreciation for the journey each cup represents. You can learn more about the event here: https://sites.google.com/view/tea-road-to-china/home 🍂 They also create beautiful artwork for tea ware, adding an artistic touch to the tea experience.

What’s even more fascinating? Tea can actually be aged like wine, developing deeper flavors over time. Pu-erh tea is particularly known for this, and as it ages, it can even grow its own natural fungus—something that sounds strange but is perfectly safe to drink. This aging process enhances the tea’s flavor profile and gives it a complexity that evolves over years, just like a fine wine or cheese.

Tea is a vast, fascinating world, with a spectrum of flavors from the delicate white tea to the bold, complex black tea. Some of the teas I discovered along the way, ordered from white to black to reflect the gradual fermentation process, include Fuding White Tea, White Peony, Xin Yang Maojian, Kanghe Green Tea, Bulang Mountain Tea, Clouds Tea, Yingde Red Tea, Lapsang Souchong, Big Red Robe, and Camphor Flavor Tea—each offering a unique taste experience.

I lived in beautiful Quebec City for a time and found a second home in a tea store run by Sebastian. After 15 incredible years, his shop has now closed. Despite challenges, Sebastian’s passion for tea, especially Pu-erh, opened my eyes to a whole world of flavors and relaxation. 🍃 Pu-erh, though caffeinated, contains GABA & L-theanine, which help reduce stress and promote relaxation—perfect for unwinding in the cooler months. 🫖✨ Thank you, Sebastian, for introducing me to this world. When choosing matcha, one key concern is radiation ⚠️, especially in regions affected by environmental factors. 🍃 It’s important to choose matcha that’s tested for contaminants like radiation and heavy metals, which can occur regardless of the matcha's quality. Brands like Pique Matcha (www.piquetea.com) (no affiliation) ✅ are third-party tested for heavy metals and contaminants, offering peace of mind. I stick with Navitas (www.navitasorganics.com) (no affiliation) 🌱, which integrates routine third-party testing, though I’m unsure about batch control. I came across this blog post by Derek Ralston (https://www.derekralston.com/), Matcha Reviews FAQ (www.matchareviews.com/faq-should-i-be-worried-about-radiation-in-my-matcha/) 📝. The author shares their experiences with different matchas from travels in Japan, discusses radiation and heavy metal contamination, and even mentions where to get matcha depending on the region in Japan. Definitely worth a read!

🍵 The Tea Bag Truth: Some tea bags contain plastic, which can leach into your drink when hot water hits. Not great! 😬 Look for brands using plastic-free, biodegradable bags (a quick search or asking the cashier works). Or try loose-leaf tea with a metal strainer to avoid plastic altogether. 🌿 Sip smarter, keep it clean. 🌍

Longevity is about expending life, not just preserving it—much like Ethereum inflates and burns coins in a dynamic, infinite cycle. Life and longevity are about balance, but right now, it feels too one-sided. Identifying too strongly with life can leave us feeling dead inside, while identifying with the non-living can make us feel more alive. It's a paradox—non-living is as afraid of life as life is of the non-living, and vice versa, pulling us toward each reality. By all means, pursue the being of expending life, just as we see the dynamism of Ethereum continue long and prosperously. But avoid the identification with either. Instead, situate yourself in the dynamism of being, which identifies with neither. This is where true dynamism arises—embracing the flow of life without being trapped by either side. To step beyond, identify with neither. 0=∞

Water today may lack essential minerals and purity. 🚰 Reverse osmosis filters help, but remember to get one with mineralization to restore balance. 🌿 Check out more: https://aquatruwater.com/reverse-osmosis_water-purifiers/?c=reverseosmosiswaterfilters&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_id=pd_search_nbrnd&tw_source=google&tw_adid=728975262226&tw_campaign=22123671242&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADjLO5w7B40VD16pbSKFoAmOeHXS5&gclid=Cj0KCQiAz6q-BhCfARIsAOezPxmrLHwsgMgwVcb0qCRqXpXfFEbZaMEAy18-7TxdTiCMjuLaJPjAcc8aAptDEALw_wcB.

At first, I wondered if combining different supplements could be harmful. 🔍 But after looking into it, I believe it’s much like eating a variety of foods 🍽️ — each supplement brings unique benefits at therapeutic levels. A balanced multivitamin can help avoid imbalances or competition between nutrients 🧴. As long as toxicity levels aren’t reached ⚖️ and no specific conditions (like pregnancy) are involved 🤰, I haven’t experienced any issues mixing them. Always consult a healthcare provider before combining supplements, especially if you’re on medication 💊. Functional medicine practitioners are who I’d recommend — no affiliation, but I did complete the IFM Foundation course. Not medical advice, just my personal experience and understanding.

NAC (N-Acetylcysteine) helps detox by replenishing glutathione, clearing toxins like heavy metals. Many of us are exposed to pollutants from traffic, factories, and more. While industrial processes have been key for progress, they can stress our cells. As we work towards cleaner air and practices, detox is crucial. A study on lead exposure showed NAC reduced blood lead levels and oxidative stress: https://www.nmi.health/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/NMJ_NAC_A-Review-of-Clinical-Use-and-Efficacy.pdf

I’ve been using Navita’s Organic Cacao Powder (no affiliation)🍫 because it’s third-party tested for heavy metals and impurities, and it’s affordable. While I can’t get batch-by-batch readings, they do publish an average, which I appreciate. 🌱 I feel great with cacao and prefer the powder over dark chocolate. Studies, like one from Tulane, show risks of lead and cadmium in chocolates, even organic ones. 🍫⚠️ Metals can seep from soil or during drying near roadsides. Anyone know smaller-scale cacao farmers with fewer impurities? 🌿
