how do farcasters feel about the mass cancellation of people lamenting trump surviving the assassination attempt via libsoftiktok many are minimum wage workers or adjacent, dumbly boomer posting. obviously idiotic posts, but for a culture thatโ€™s ostensibly anti cancellation it feels like retribution righteous or no?

Interesting. I think regardless of cancellation it is easy to understand not accepting someone wishing that he had died. Should you tell that person that is wrong to say/wish that? Maybe itโ€™s not really necessary but definitely tempting.

It seems contradictory to oppose cancel culture while engaging in mass cancellations. It's natural to question if this is justified.

It's annoying. Legitimately the function of free speech and it makes the right look like huge crybabies. Nothing is tough or cool about canceling your enemies.

i don't care about rando line cooks, i expect all the parties to have lots of voters people who would do this kind of jeering but there's been articles about e.g. university professors wishing him dead and i do think that if you're in a position of power it's part of your duty to not stir shit up and advocate for violence, even implicitly a few weeks ago we had literal republican politicians calling for their political opposition to get out of the way so they don't have a bloody revolution and that's way out of line for a healthy democracy hopeful that the moment lets some people getting heated take a step back and realize, actually, no, they DON'T want a violent revolution

Itโ€™s never been about finding a better way to society to operate Itโ€™s always been about punishing the other team (for both sides, but generally unequally tilted toward ways most conducive to manipulating their baseโ€™s bloodlust)

pathetic I am even sympathetic to the idea of adopting your enemies otherwise reprehensible tactics when the threat is existential and not doing so means you lose but this is petty and irrelevant stooping where someone ostensibly claiming a moral high ground reveals themself

also conservatives are not and have never been anti cancellation except when it's a convenient fig leaf getting people fired for political beliefs was all the rage in past decades, just didn't have a catchy name

any vibe shift that reduces total casualties & makes abundance more predictable, even if nebulous & labyrinthine to the casual bystander, is probably accepted on a subconscious level. people underestimate the voting bloc of upper middle, suburban donor classes. they have no risk appetite.

both sides of this equation unfortunately love cancellation, and cheer for political violence when it aligns with their ideological views (see: the meme to legislation arc for 'running over protesters blocking traffic with your car')

Society needs to forgive and bring people back into the fold, not cancel and exile. Otherwise Tribal warfare will never end. The people that lose their jobs will continue to carry their hate, a powerful animating emotion, with no path for reconciliation.

It was always hypocritical: MAGA people have no problem going after people who break their ranks (e.g. the Chicks) but the moment they catch flack for being bigoted it's the end of the world. When I realized everyone had been doing cancel culture since forever I felt dumb

Don't like what they said, don't like what was done to them, but that is what society does. Same thing when the left cancelled the right, don't like what they said, don't like what was done to them.
