saying “everyone is a designer” is akin to saying “everyone is an athlete.” just as anyone can (and should) participate in sport, anyone can participate in creative problem-solving. but the skill gap created with rigorous practice is vast.

Yes. “I make design decisions” =\= “I am a designer” Moreover, just because you have hours of rigorous training (and a degree) doesn’t make you a *good* designer (as evidenced by outcomes, etc). 555 $degen

just as some are genetically gifted to be a more natural athlete, other people's genetic makeup allows for a gift to be naturally more creative. can train to do either but comes easier for those with the natural toolkit.

well said! I never consider myself an artist and I try to improve my skills! In relation to this cast, I can say that in the past year, the importance of practice and practice became more visible to me than ever, the qualitative growth of my works surprised me!

You can be labeled a designer after literally making/doing anything, I would say “design” is very subjective. Being labeled as an athlete is way less subjective, in between you also have “athletic”. I do agree skill gap can be created measured by some kind of following or paid metrics.

What about talent? Some people just have an eye for aesthetics in design, don't they? Practice > Talent?
