i remember thinking "digital transformation" was the funniest / cringiest term but if you saw it happen in the 90s it probably felt crazy to see everything go digital obvious parallel to AI today

lol - I remember the sound and heat of mainframe computers stacked in our house when my dad was launching his startup. So clunky and expensive.

Huge impact but if I had to relate I'd say the growth of cell phones was probably as significant. I'm still on the theory that it had the most impact on society and was a huge factor in demographics and physical spaces. It made cities livable. This technology leaked out of company basements for the first time and is now in the hands of babies.

Paying a fortune for a "leased line", and hosting your own rack of servers (dns, smtp, imap, apache, postgres, etc). Tape drives for backups.
